Book #15 - Christmas Cookies:
Bite-sized Holiday Lessons
by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
This book captures the spirit of the holiday season by exploring a Christmas tradition through vocabulary words. Each page spread has a word related to the activities and emotions of the holiday season, presented through the familiar activity of making holiday cookies. Children can relate to Anticipation, Celebration, Peace, Joy, Hope...and also terms like Disappointment, Reciprocate, Gracious, and Charitable.
A unique way to explain the values of the season with little ones.
Our Day 15 Christmas Book Countdown Activity
I had originally planned to make these paper-backed cookie cutter ornaments a la Martha. You trace the cutter onto patterned paper (or photographs), then cut it out and glue it to the back of the cookie cutter and hang as an ornament. I tried to do this with my Little Man and it was too difficult for him to participate at all. This could be because we had mini cookie cutters.
Regular sized ones would make for easier tracing and cutting for small hands.
We ended up abandoning ship on this one and went with a traditional, tried and true,
cookie baking and decorating session.
Whichever you decide to do, I hope you enjoy your time together!
